MOMENTUM CONTINUES:

State Investment Reaches $2 Million
for Florida Museum of Black History

State leaders reaffirm their commitment while the Foundation expands advocacy, partnerships, and community engagement across Florida.

Every great institution begins long before its doors open, this quarter represents another important milestone in our journey.

While many projects across Florida were reduced or vetoed during this year’s budget process, funding for the Museum remained intact—a meaningful demonstration of the importance of preserving Black history throughout our state.

Another $1 million appropriated in Florida’s FY 2026–2027 State Budget, total state investment has now reached $2 million, reaffirming the importance of preserving and sharing Florida’s Black history for generations to come.

Foundation Chairman Howard Holley noted,

“This funding represents more than a financial investment—it is a commitment to preserving the rich history, culture, and legacy of Black Floridians.”

We proudly celebrate as we continue building partnerships throughout the state, we remain focused on expanding awareness, strengthening our Foundation, and inviting individuals, organizations, and communities to become part of this historic effort.

In our second quarter, Foundation Chairman Howard Holley addressed the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners, provided an update on the Museum’s progress and outlined the Foundation’s next phase of growth.

Highlights included:

  • Expansion of the Foundation Board
  • Vision for a three-building campus
  • State funding progress
  • Regional fundraising strategy
  • Capacity-building efforts

The Commissioners directed staff to evaluate the proposed $125,000 capacity funding request for future consideration.

This presentation reflected the continued collaboration between the Foundation and local leaders as plans move forward.
