Our schools are struggling with the current cultural and economic environment. Many factors determine the success of our public and private schools. Some of these factors include: “What is the reading level of our 3rd graders?” because we know that is a large part of determining their future academic success or failure; “What effects have administrators witnessed thus far concerning our student population as a result of their time away from school for COVID?” as we are hearing many students’ time off has affected their grades and performance; and “What funding is necessary to aid schools at capacity?”

As business-oriented individuals, it’s clear the health of our schools is crucial for the future of our society. However, schools are currently facing numerous challenges that hinder their effectiveness. One of the most pressing issues is funding. In many parts of the country, schools are underfunded, which means that they cannot provide students with the resources they need to succeed. This is particularly true in low-income areas where schools struggle to attract and retain high-quality teachers and staff.

As members of the business community, we can play a crucial role in helping to address these challenges. Ultimately, our businesses will benefit from well-educated, well-rounded graduates through strategic approaches including:

  • Providing financial support to schools. This can come in the form of donations, grants, or sponsorships. By investing in our schools, we can help to ensure that they have the resources they need to provide our children with a quality education.
  • Offering our expertise and experience to schools. Our local businesses have a wealth of knowledge and skills that could be valuable to schools. For example, we could offer guidance on how to improve school infrastructure or provide mentorship opportunities for students.
  • Help schools to forge partnerships with other businesses and organizations in their communities. Such partnerships could provide schools with access to resources, funding, and expertise that they might not otherwise have access to.
  • Advocating for policies and initiatives that support our schools. This could include lobbying for increased funding for education, supporting legislation that promotes school choice and teacher development, and encouraging public-private partnerships in education.
